Why support the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra?
Ticket revenue covers only 46% of our annual operating budget. We rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses to keep our organization going strong. Your contribution makes the following programs possible:
Since 2002 - Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra
The Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra is an honors big band under the direction KJO lead trombonist Tom Lundberg. The band is open to high school students from across East Tennessee and is chosen by audition each Fall. The group rehearses weekly at the Joy of Music School and performs a number of concerts around the region each year.
Since 2006 - Knoxville Jazz Orchestra Big Band Concert Series
This series of concerts is held at the historic Bijou and Tennessee Theatres and features our original 17 piece professional big band alongside some of the most acclaimed artists working in jazz today. Annual highlights include the Swingin’ Christmas concert and Jazz is for Lovers, a Valentine’s Day celebration.
Since 2011 - Jazz on the Square
Every Tuesday evening in May, June and September our organization produces a series of free concerts on the outdoor stage at Market Square Mall. The concerts feature a variety of local talent and are attended by a broad and diverse audience.
Since 2014 - Knoxville Jazz Middle School Band
The Knoxville Jazz Middle School Band is a companion to the KJYO under the direction of multi-instrumentalist Valerie Sanders. The band is open to grades 6-8 and is chosen by audition each Fall. The group rehearses weekly at West Valley Middle School and performs several concerts each year.
Since 2018 - Live at Lucille’s
Live at Lucille’s brings the tradition of exciting and innovative PBS music programming to East Tennessee. These concerts feature local, regional and national artists and are recorded in front of a live audience at East Tennessee PBS’ studios near downtown Knoxville. The shows air on local PBS stations across Tennessee and will be available to PBS stations across the country in 2023.
