Knoxville Jazz Workshop: Fall 2024
The mission of the Knoxville Jazz Workshop is to inspire, educate and enable the next generation of jazz musicians in East Tennessee. This Saturday workshop series provides a hands-on learning environment for students at all stages of their musical journey focusing on the fundamental elements of jazz music and improvisation.

FACULTY:

Margherita Fava

Artistic director, piano

Margherita Fava, born in Follina (ITALY), moved to the USA in 2016 and since then she earned a B.A in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University and a M.M in Jazz and Studio Music at University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

She is now a full time musician, educator, arranger and composer based in Tennessee and collaborates with numerous musicians including Gregory Tardy, Rodney Whitaker, Randy Napoleon, Gina Benalcazar, among others.

Her debut album “TATATU” featuring Greg Tardy and produced by Rodney Whitaker was released on all streaming platforms in March 2023 and received a 4-star review on Downbeat Magazine.

Jalen Baker

Drums

Jalen Baker is a drummer from Memphis, TN. He’s an alumni and instructor at the Memphis Jazz Workshop, mentoring under Stephen M. Lee. He is currently studying at the University of TN in Knoxville with Professor and KJO drummer Keith Brown. He gigs with various projects throughout Tennessee.

Cameron Moore

Guitar

Cameron Moore is from Memphis, Tennessee. He’s has been a musician in Knoxville for the last decade after attending the University of Tennessee. Currently, Cameron can be seen performing with Brian Clay, LVNDR, Three Star Revival, and Milkshake Fatty, among other acts.

Carter Beucher

Saxophone

Carter Beucher is an up-and-coming saxophonist from Kansas City where he recorded with the Kansas City Area Youth Jazz band. A senior at the University of Tennessee studying under Greg Tardy, Carter plays regularly in the Knoxville area with the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, NXT GEN Big Band, Nez Band and more.

Parker Bakkall

Bass

Originally from Nashville, Parker is a recent graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he completed his undergraduate studies in Jazz Performance for the upright bass studying with Jon Hamar.

Now based in Knoxville, he is a full-time freelance musician and educator, often playing as an in-demand sideman for various musicians and bands around eastern Tennessee. Additionally, Parker works at Auralation Studios as a recording engineer, studio musician, and composer in a variety of musical genres.

Hugh Lindsay

Trombone

Originally from Kentucky, Hugh Linsday got his Master degree at University of Tennessee. Being fluent in both classical and jazz repertoire, Hugh is now a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, as well as Adjunct Instructor of Low Brass at Pellissippi Community College.
